What about life inspires you?
Getting out in nature, learning something new, and helping others is what inspires me. On the last one, the educational and societal opportunities available to disadvantaged youth, particularly orphans, is my main interest!
Why did you choose to volunteer with GiveLight Foundation?
I found out about GiveLight when Dian spoke to my Stanford class during a visit to the MCA in Santa Clara. The mission fit with my interest in supporting orphans, and it also resonated with my personal connection to the SE Asia tsunami - I had a friend who survived the wave, so the disaster had really struck a personal chord.
How do you help make a difference by doing what you do here?
Having volunteered at the Aceh orphanage, I know how much the children appreciate visitors from the US, and how much they need any opportunity to speak English with native speakers. So it's my goal now to make it as easy as possible for volunteers to plan their trips and get settled at the orphanages, so they can then focus on teaching time with the children.
