2. Win Alin Munthe
I was born in Central Aceh on July 12th, 2003. I came to the GiveLight home in 2017 when I was in the first year of middle school. I still remember arriving here around 3-4 pm — it was my 14th birthday. I came to live at the GiveLight home because my family could no longer support me; my father had passed away in 2010.
In middle school, I participated in many activities and was involved in several student organizations. I was appointed as vice president of the student council, the president of Boy Scouts, and was also a class leader from my first to the third year of middle school. I participated in competitions and brought home many trophies from the competitions.
Some of my fondest memories include watching horse races, going to a waterpark during school break, and going on a field trip to another beautiful island for vacation.
In high school, I continued being a part of the student council, which I really loved to do. I also achieved 3rd place in Student Ambassador for National Order Security in Aceh. I have been invited to continue my higher education at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh majoring in electrical engineering.
I was invited because of my achievements and activities at school. I will start university in August.
I’m very grateful to my GiveLight family for the love and encouragement to achieve many things. At GiveLight, we would sometimes forget that we are orphans as we didn’t see any difference between us and other children who still have parents. I feel very happy living at the GiveLight home. The hugs, love, and affection I receive are endless. Thank you for supporting me in achieving my dreams and goals. I will not disappoint my family.
3. Tsuraya Fitri Nabila
I was born on June 6th, 2004 in Central Aceh. My father was one of the tsunami victims in Banda Aceh in 2004.
At that time, my mother and I were not in Banda Aceh, so we were safe from the disaster. I was only 5 months old and can’t remember anything. I came to live at the GiveLight home in 2010, and my mother was offered a job as a cook.
I grew up in a loving home. I still remember when I was a young child and “Ayah,” our father at the GiveLight home, took us to watch horse races on the weekends. He loved taking us on hiking trips to the mountains or swimming in the lake or the waterpark.
On the way home from the waterpark, he would treat us to fried noodles or other favorite treats.
During Ramadan, we’d go out and buy food for iftar with him. His love and affection will always remain dear in my heart.
I spent 12 years under the care of the GiveLight family from elementary school until I graduated high school.
By the grace of God, I will pursue a college degree majoring in shariah finance. I was admitted to the IAIN Lhokseumawe as an invited student without being required to take an admissions test. I will begin my studies in August this year.
GiveLight has become like my own family. Their love and kindness are priceless to me. I am so grateful and thankful that they always supported us in reaching our hopes and dreams.
4. Hikmatul Fadila
I was born on April 24, 2004 in Medan, Indonesia. I came to the Givelight home in 2019 when I was a freshman in high school and after my father passed away. My family couldn’t afford my education and I was so happy to be a part of Givelight’s family. I have a lot of happy memories that will always stay with me: meeting wonderful people who gave me great motivation in my life and having many friends.
I did all the activities and competitions organized by GiveLight – locally and globally. This included a Quran competition, calligraphy, and a reading contest as well as a Global Walkathon. I have just graduated from high school and I am going to college. With God’s permission, I have been accepted at a reputable University, majoring in biology. I am very grateful to Givelight for supporting me in pursuing my higher education.
5. Sara Simahara
I was born on July 1, 2004, in Medan. When I was eight years old, my father passed away. At 12 years of age, I came to the Givelight home because my family couldn’t afford to pay for my school anymore.
When I was in junior high school, I took part in a storytelling competition and got second place. I also got second place in a Quran memorization competition. I have also participated in a math competition, I made it to the top five.
In high school, I was a participant in the Quran memorization competition for one Juz and participated in a guitar playing competition which I got 1st place. These competitions motivated me to do better.
During school holidays, Givelight arranged field trips to the water parks, mountain hiking, horse racing, playing on the shores of the lake, and swimming in the lake together. During Ramadan, we’d go out and buy food for iftar with Ayah (our dad) and other caretakers. I love them as they love us.
By the grace of God, I will continue my studies at the Polytechnic College majoring in Banking/Finace, and will start in August 2022.
I’m very grateful to the Givelight family, which has always given me love and affection. Givelight has encouraged me not to give up in life. I want to help others just like Givelight helps so many people. I feel happy because the Givelight family has always supported me to achieve my dreams and hopes. Thank you Givelight!
6. Hind Ngairi
I was born in 2004 in Morocco. I lost my father to chronic illness when I was five years old. At that time I was still living with my mother and sisters. We went through many struggles in life, but we kept going. My mother is a strong, patient woman, but due to health problems, she could not continue to take care of us.
We learned about GiveLight in 2018, and I went to live there with one of my sisters. I remember it was the beginning of a new school year. At first, being in a new place with new girls was a bit difficult for me, but over time we became a wonderful family and I feel that I’ve changed for the better. In our big home, we play and have fun, but we also study hard. We enjoy many group activities such as cooking together in Ramadan, taking trips to the beach and gardens, celebrating traditional events, and learning how to draw.
I’ve learned a lot at GiveLight about confidence, solidarity, and having the patience to solve problems. I’ve now graduated from high school and will be going to university this year to major in international political studies. I will miss my GiveLight home and always be grateful to them for the love and kindness they’ve given me.
