Walk For Syria/Turkey.

givelight children orpans syria ilyaas arsalaAt GiveLight, we are blessed not only to be engaged in inspiring work, but also to be able to do so with many friends who share our passion. We will be featuring their stories in their own words, in the hope that they will inspire readers to join us in this beautiful journey of giving. Today, we’d like you to meet Ali Sheikh, a Business Lead at Konica, Minolta, USA. Below are his insights on what motivates him to support our work.

When did you first hear about GiveLight?

About three years ago, in the Bay Area.

How?

Through Firasat Ali. I saw that he was very involved in the organization and I wanted to find out how I could get involved and help out. So I reached out to Dian and we have been in touch ever since.

What motivated you to support the work? And to hold events?

The Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “I will be like this in Jannah with the person who takes care of an orphan.” The Messenger (pbuh) raised his forefinger and middle finger by way of illustration. We held an Iftar during Ramadan for over 60 people and used it as a way to fundraise for GiveLight. Many people donated and were happy that their money was going towards such a noble cause, especially during Ramadan. The guests were very impressed with the organization and it was a huge plus that the organization is located in the Bay Area and that the people who run GiveLight are people you can talk to in person or via email.

In your opinion how is GiveLight different?

Donating to an organization run by people I know and trust to organize and take care of how the funds get distributed is very important to me. I trust the people at GiveLight and know that my money is not being wasted on non-beneficial things. It is great knowing the founders and people running the organization, something that is very rare.

Do you feel a personal connection to the cause?

Yes, especially when I see the status updates, events, and photos that GiveLight shares with the whole community. Very few organizations are able to show direct outcomes, but GiveLight is one of the few in which you get to see the actual impact you are making.

What are your dreams for our orphans and GiveLight?

Peace, safety and security. No child or orphan should ever be hungry or go without a day with no food, shelter or clothing.

Any advice you would like to share with our children?

Stay positive, and know that we will always be here for all of you.

How do you support the work?

By sponsoring 2 children and making sure they receive the love, dignity and education they deserve. GiveLight supports these children not for a week a month or a year, but for life until each child graduates from college. Aside from this, I try to educate people about the work that GiveLight does and spread its cause and noble mission with people in my circle.

Any final words you’d like to share with our readers?

If you really want your money to go a long way to support orphans, then GiveLight is for you. Dian has spent her life setting up GiveLight and her effort is something to be proud of. We all should help out in any way we can, whether it is monthly donations, event sponsorship, or spreading awareness about GiveLight. The reward is ever-lasting.

Thank you, Ali, for sharing your blessings with us. May the Source of all light illuminate your path.
