Walk For Syria/Turkey.

Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending a GiveLight Foundation gathering, and I left feeling deeply inspired. When intention meets purpose, something magical happens—what starts as a small idea can ripple outward into impact for thousands.

A Legacy of Love and Care

GiveLight Foundation was founded 20 years ago by Dian Alyan, who turned her personal loss from the 2004 tsunami into a global movement of love and compassion. What began with 50 children has grown to 1,000, and now the vision is to reach 10,000 children worldwide. The mission is more than just providing shelter—it’s about nurturing hearts, building life skills, ensuring education, and creating a true sense of home for orphaned children.

A Chaat Fiesta with Heart

This particular gathering was hosted by Zareen, who wanted to raise both funds and awareness for GiveLight. She came up with the idea of a Chaat Fiesta, inviting 20 women—many new to GiveLight—to connect, learn, and contribute.

The food lineup was as vibrant as the cause: tangy, sweet, and crunchy chaat favorites like dahi bade, pani puri, bhel puri, sandwiches, and chicken cheese burgers, alongside a dessert spread of ladoos, tiramisu, coconut ladoos, cake, and fruit.

Beyond the food, the evening featured a lively scavenger hunt that generated laughter, bonding, and sisterhood among attendees.

Reflecting on the spirit of the event, Zareen shared:

“Our faith places a profound emphasis on the welfare and protection of orphans, advocating for their care as a fundamental aspect of both faith and social responsibility. GiveLight is a great platform that allows individuals like me to participate in this noble cause within our capacity. The GiveLight team supported me throughout the planning and execution of this event, making it possible to bring this vision to life.”

Hosting the Chaat Fiesta was also a chance to share GiveLight’s mission with friends and community, raising awareness of the many volunteering opportunities and programs available. It served as a reminder that each of us can use our creativity and ideas to inspire, take action, and help carry forward the noble cause of supporting orphans.

What struck me most is how something as simple as sharing food and stories can spark real change. One small act of kindness—whether hosting, mentoring, or donating—becomes part of a much larger story of love, care, and purpose. Together, we can help GiveLight reach its next milestone: bringing hope and a home to 10,000 children.

Programs with Purpose

At the gathering, we heard about the many programs that bring this vision to life:

Each program reflects the diversity of the GiveLight community and the belief that everyone—young or old—can contribute meaningfully.

Why These Gatherings Matter

The true intent of these gatherings goes far beyond food and fun. They exist to:

How You Can Get Involved

The beauty of GiveLight is that there are many ways to be part of the journey:

GiveLight’s story reminds us that creating lasting change doesn’t always begin with grand gestures—it begins with simple ones. A gathering in someone’s home. A plate of food shared. A conversation that ignites purpose.

Each step we take—no matter how small—moves us closer to giving thousands of children a safe home and a brighter future.
