Theme: Blessings of Ramadan
In the anticipation of the holy month, we invite you to share your favorite Ramadan moments. What excites you or a memory from a past Ramadan or what is one thing you look forward to in this blessed month. These are just ideas. The contest is open to all ages and can be a personal or family story.
Requirements:
- Entries must be 1-3 minutes in length.
- Entries must be submitted online below.
- Competition only valid if 50 unique submissions.
- Limit of 3 videos per individual/household.
- Share your submission on social media with the hashtag #GiveLightVideoChallenge.
- Due March 30th, 2020 – Winners announced April 20, 2020
Prizes:
- 1st Place Winner: $300 Amazon Electronic Gift Card
- 2nd Place Winner: $200 Amazon Electronic Gift Card
- Runner-Up: $100 Amazon Electronic Gift Card
Winning entrants who are U.S. citizens or residents will be required to provide their Social Security Number before cash prizes can be awarded.
Instructions to upload film:
- Please upload your film on your youtube channel. Alternatively you can upload your video to Instagram using Hashtag, #GiveLightVideoChallenge. Do not mail us the file.
- Once you upload the video, send the link to video@givelight.org with email subject “GiveLight Video Contest 2020 – Submission”.

It is the sole responsibility of the filmmakers to obtain rights and permission for use of music, copyrighted materials, and all other creative work related to their films. This can be original source material or obtained e.g. from Creative Commons (more details below)GiveLight Foundation is not responsible for any infringement of such rights. By submitting, you indemnify and hold harmless GiveLight Foundation and its partnering organizations from any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses.
Contest decisions made by the administration of the GiveLight Foundation are final. All prizes need not be awarded.
All entries become the property of Givelight Foundation.

Videos will be judged based on the following criteria:
- Creativity
- Message clarity and relevance
- Motivation and inspiration
- Overall impact
- Editing and filming skills
Video Contest – Tips:
So you want to make a video and win our contest? Take a few minutes to review our short list of tips and tricks and read about some of the resources we list here.
- Tips and Suggestions
- Tell a meaningful story – story is the center of every good movie, short film, and competition entry.
- Get creative both in the content and the title/description. You want your video to stand out.
- Video quality is important, so shoot your video in HD.
- Don’t rush into it. Plan out your story using a storyboard. Even a short film needs a beginning, middle and end.
- Audio/Music
- Audio quality is just as important if not more than video. Test it out through filming.
- Please do not use copyrighted music. Free, royalty-free music that is not copyrighted is available from following:

- Legal music for your video (links to many sites): https://creativecommons.org
- Make sure that you have permission to use images and music in your video. If Beyoncé is your friend, make sure she signs a release allowing you to use her music.

- There are lots of places on the net to find low-cost and free stock footage that you can use to improve your video. If you need images that you’re not able to shoot, check these out:

- Stock footage can be found that covers almost any location and any genre. Look around and add some production value to your video.

- Editing Software
- Both Windows Live Movie Maker and on Mac Apple iMovie computers have free software to help you edit your video. Adobe Premiere Pro, available on Mac OS and Windows, has a free trial you may wish to utilize. There are also several other free or inexpensive apps that you can download to help unleash your creativity.
