Dear Friends and Supporters of GiveLight,
1.Blanket of Love
This winter, a $10 donation will warm a Syrian orphan living in a refugee camp. Join us in wrapping 10,000 orphans with love. We are thrilled to share that a few of our generous supporters have agreed to match the first 1,000 blankets to be donated. So let's stop wishing, and let's start acting!

Picture of the actual blanket to be sent. It is custom made with extra thickness for warmth and comfort.
As the harsh cold winter settles in, we hope you will be compelled to join us in bringing warmth and comfort to those whose lives have been displaced, and whose only shelters are the thin walls of temporary tents. After considering multiple options for the blanket collection and distribution, we have settled on the following two tiered approach:
- We will be purchasing the first 2,000 blankets in Turkey where a local trustworthy partner will distribute the blankets. This saves us cost of shipping/avoid potential issues at custom and allow us to distribute quickly.
-
The second batch of 8,000 customized, thick blankets will be purchased from Golden Linen in China at a deep discount with one of our donor families agreeing to pay the shipping costs.
We will be sending our core team from California to Turkey to help oversee the execution of the project in December/January time frame. We look forward to sharing stories and pictures with you in the coming weeks.
2. GiveLight Won PayPal Business Challenge

Our founder did a three minute pitch in front of over one hundred Paypal employees and NGO participants. By the grace of God, Givelight made it to the list of selected organizations.
Paypal assigned six of its top technologists to work on our technical challenges. We decided to focus on two projects that have the greatest impact: improving the appeal of our online presence, and donation flow. After four months of data analysis and understanding our business model and challenges, the team came up with two tangible ideas. Read More

3. Mentor-Me: From MIT and Silicon Valley to the World
Last April, our founder Dian Alyan had the honor and privilege of speaking at MIT and sharing the work we are doing to build beautiful homes and futures for orphans worldwide. She received a very warm welcome and everyone in the audience showed a keen interest in helping out. All expressed a willingness to do something.
The strange thing about life is that every day we have so many opportunities to do good, but often, life itself distracts us from doing what we really dream of and what matters most. Fortunately for us, one student who attended that talk — Atif Javed — lived up to his words. He graduated the previous summer, got a job at one of the best global companies, and still manages to make time every Saturday morning... Read More
