The economic crash in the Mediterranean country has impacted all sectors of its society. Children suffer the consequences of one of the worst crises in history in different aspects of their lives, but their education is seriously at risk. According to UNICEF, 15% of families in Lebanon have stopped their children’s education. More than 700,000 kids are at risk of never returning to a classroom due to rising poverty, while thousands have dropped out of school to engage in child labor or get married. The lack of education can have traumatizing implications for these children. In the short term, it can lead to learning loss, mental distress, exposure to violence, and reduced development of social skills.

After months of research and outreach, we are thrilled to announce a new pilot project to help the orphans in Lebanon. Through one of our long-term volunteers who is originally from Lebanon and still has contacts there, we found an organization whose mission is aligned with ours. We will start providing support to 50 orphans through a partnership with Social Welfare Institutions – Dar Al Aytam Al Islamiya. Dar Al Aytam seeks to empower disadvantaged youth through education, enabling them to develop their full potential and lead more productive lives by providing academic schooling and vocational training. Dar al Aytam has been providing relief to the poor, distressed, and underprivileged in Lebanon since 1917. We hope to grow the number of children we support in Lebanon and know that many of you have been eagerly waiting for such an opportunity.
