Life as we all know it, represents happiness, challenges and sometimes an unexpected tragedy. A family who has been supporting our work was struck by a tragedy. We are deeply touched by their loss and grateful for how they responded.
It is related that the Messenger of God ﷺ said, “The affair of the believer is amazing! The whole of his life is beneficial, and that is only in the case of the believer. When good times come to him, he is thankful and it is good for him, and when bad times befall him, he is patient and it is also good for him.” Sahih Muslim, vol.4, no.7138
Nearly two years ago, our family was blessed with an amazing gift; a beautiful girl, Zarina. Unfortunately, she was born with multiple congenital anomalies, which she constantly battled. Against all odds, she continued to fight in order to teach us some lessons.
First and foremost, she taught us to trust God and to be patient. Time and time again, Zarina proved physicians and their diagnoses incorrect. She thrived in certain aspects of her life to show that God is ultimately in control. When we were told she wouldn’t breathe on her own, she did. When we were told she couldn’t roll over, she did. Often, it seemed her determination caused her to overcome such difficulties.
She also taught us to love unconditionally. Despite all the late nights, early mornings, doctor appointments, and numerous hospitalizations, she forced us to show compassion. She required constant care and attention, but most importantly love. How could we go on day after day and not reciprocate her beautiful and loving smile?
Finally, her presence caused us to slow down and enjoy the moment. Especially after she was put on hospice care, we began to truly appreciate all of our blessings. The things we take for granted, Zarina caused us to notice and cherish. For example, due to issues with her vocal cords, we never heard her cry. Most parents never realize the blessing of hearing their child’s voice-something we never got to experience.
In her honor and memory, we urge you to support the programs of this organization. Your donations can help provide for orphans across the globe.
Peace be upon you all. Indeed we are, God willing, soon to follow, we ask God for well-being for us and for you.
